Cardiac Imaging
Coronary artery disease is known as the silent killer and is the number one cause of death in both men and women, affecting over 65 million Americans. More than 500,000 Americans will die of coronary artery associated heart disease each year, with no prior symptoms. 85% of all heart disease can be halted or prevented if it is discovered soon enough.
Cardiac CT Angiography (CCTA)
-CCTA directly detects coronary artery blockages and is an important new tool available to guide clinical management of those patients with chest pain and significant coronary risk factors such as family history of heart disease, hypertension, smoking, diabetes and elevated cholesterol.
-Although not a replacement for all cardiac catherization, CCTA is significantly less time consuming, expensive and invasive. CCTA requires an IV contrast injection and circumvents the risks inherent in conventional cardiac catherization.
-The CCTA examination is different that Coronary Calcium Scoring in that both calcified coronary artery plaque and just as importantly, noncalcified plaque and associated blockages can be directly visualized within the coronary arteries.
-This is examination is offered at our Overland Park office.
-Preparation for the exam requires that a pt. arrive approximately 1 hour before the examination, abstain from food and significant liquids 4 hours prior to the exam (except medications), abstain from Levitra, Cialis or Viagra for 24 hours prior to exam time and for those patients with allergies to IV contrast material, prior premedication will be required.
-For any questions, please all our office.
Coronary Calcium Scoring:
-At Diagnostic Imaging Centers, P.A. our Coronary Calcium Scoring test can visualize and quantify the amount of calcium present in the hard plaque within the arteries. This plaque is a marker for arteriosclerosis (hardening of the arteries) and can alert an individual to the necessity of further cardiac testing.
-Coronary Calcium Scoring is a fast, painless, non-invasive CT examination that takes only 15 minutes to perform. Best of all, if there is a problem, you can find out quickly, while there’s time to act. Coronary Calcium Scoring is offered at our Overland Park, North, Plaza, Independence and Lee's Summit offices. No preparation is required.
