Whole Body Health: Walk the Walk

Posted on February 19, 2016 in mammography

Every now and then (though maybe it should be all of the time) we like to talk about general health because a healthy body includes healthy breasts! Today we'd like to address walking.

We were inspired by a recent TEDtalk about taking meetings for a walk. As if they were reading our collective mind, the New York Times wrote about walking yesterday.

It seems there are two great ways to approach walking: you either need a good reason, or a good excuse.

Reasons include: better blood sugar levels, better digestion, and better circulation, better cholesterol levels. It also reduces the risk of: dementia and Alzheimer's, type 2 diabetes, heart disease, cancer and obesity. Improve balance and coordination, stronger bones and improvements in mental health can also occur. Seriously, how many reasons do you need?

Ok, if you need a good excuse, here are a few good ones: there are no conference rooms for my meetings, oops I left my car at the ___ (wherever), and dodging less-interesting people at a dinner. Or you could default to us: the doctor-bloggers told me it's good for me.

Walking is also an incredibly convenient form of exercise. You've been practicing your whole life, so you should be pretty good at it. No special equipment is required. You can start anytime (seriously, you could even stop reading right now and just go!). You can go pretty much anywhere. So, get ready, get set.....walk.
